ATHENS, June 7 (Xinhua) -- With a love for dogs, four young Greek people are changing the terms of business in Athens.
"Peteat", the first cook house for dogs in Greece and the first "Dog Bakery" are two different stores, which were created after a careful study and cooperation with specialized veterinarians.
"We love dogs so we cook for them" is the motto of the kitchen, inspired by Ilektra Pappa and Manto Mourmouraki.
Friends from school, a nurse and philologist respectively, they own four puppies that changed their lives.
"It all started when we were looking for the best quality food in the trade for our own dogs. We started discussing with vets and somehow we ended up to cooked food from fresh ingredients, just like our own, with materials that a dog can consume. Peteat gradually opened its doors about 4 years ago," Pappa told Xinhua on Wednesday.
The menu includes bacon carrot cake, pupcakes Cranberries Cinammon, dishes with chicken, salmon and turkey among others and also delicacies for "goodnight" or "fresh breath".
So what is the client's favorite dish? "They are delighted with all the flavors as well as our menu, but the most popular delicacy seems to be peanut butter sandwich which doesn't contain salt and sugar," Pappa added.
Peteat uses pure ingredients, fresh vegetables and meat certified for human consumption, without the addition of preservatives or artificial substances.
What would they say to those who regard cooked food for dogs an inaccessible luxury in time of crisis? "Our puppies are part of our family now and we have to offer them the best. Beyond that, the price of Peteat's cooked food is about the same with a quality food of the trade," Mourmouraki said.
Dog Bakery is the second culinary paradise for dogs, in the heart of Athens. It was created in March this year and tomorrow is the grand opening.
Spyros Papas, an ex sales manager and George Rigas, a coffee shop supervisor are the owners and they also have an e-shop.
Each dog has its needs, its peculiarities and, why not, its preferences, they thought and they started the project. "A year and a half ago we had the idea from our dogs who had some minor medical problems. We would like to make food that could help them," Papas told Xinhua.
The bakery sells cupcakes, vegetable and salmon bars and small delicacies, but also dog grooming products and natural supplements.
Next target of the Bakery in the future is the research for specialized cat menu.?
