TOKYO, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed higher Friday on gains in the Dow Jones Industrial Average overnight as well as robust earnings reports of major Japanese firms.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 125.88 points, or 0.56 percent, from Thursday at 22,712.75.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 9.98 points, or 0.57 percent, to 1,775.76.
Trading volume on the main section came to 1,381.33 million shares, up from Thursday's 1,252.81 million shares.
Among all shares listed on the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered decliners 1,398 to 623, with 80 ending the day unchanged.
Gainers were led by chemical, mining and rubber product issues.
The day's turnover was around 2,167.9 billion yen (19.51 billion U.S. dollars).
