BAGHDAD, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and four others injured on Monday in separate attacks in central Iraq, security sources said.
In one attack, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a civilian and killed him in Baghdad southwestern suburb of Radhwaniyah, Major Raid Ali Hussein told Xinhua.
In another incident, a roadside bomb ripped through al-Ghadeer neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, leaving three people wounded and damaging two cars, Hussein said.
In Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, a civilian was killed and another wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire at civilians in Kanaan area near the provincial capital Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, Salam al-Shimary from Diyala Operations Command told Xinhua.
Also in the province, the extremist Islamic State (IS) militants fired mortar rounds on Abu Garma village in northeast of Baquba, damaging some houses of villagers without human casualties, Shimary said.
Meanwhile, the extremist IS militants shot dead 20 cows belonging to villagers in al-Udheim area north of Diyala in an attempt to avenge the villagers for their cooperation with the Iraqi government, Mohammed al-Obeidi, head of Udheim town council, told Xinhua.
The security situation in Iraq has been dramatically improved after Iraqi security forces fully defeated the extremist IS militants across the country late in 2017.
However, small groups and individuals of extremist militants melted or regrouped in urban and rugged areas, and are carrying out attacks against the security forces and civilians despite operations from time to time to hunt them down.
