BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- "Vanguard," an upcoming Chinese action film starring Jackie Chan, is set for theatrical release on the Chinese mainland on Jan. 25, 2020, the Chinese Lunar New Year, according to the China Film Distribution and Exhibition Association.
It tells of a squad of security guards who manage to rescue hostages taken by an international mercenary organization.
"It represents our innovation efforts to turn Chinese stories into an action blockbuster across the world," Stanley Tong, the film's director, said at a promotion event recently held in Foshan, south China's Guangdong Province.
Tong is known for his action movies including the "Police Story" franchise and Kung Fu Yoga, and his cooperation with Jackie Chan can be dated back to around 30 years ago.
